Top 5 reasons people seek remedial massage therapy…

  1. Suffering pain - chronic (long term) or acute (recent). Back, neck, arms, or leg pain, and headaches.
  2. Feeling of tightness in your muscles and joints – lack of mobility.
  3. Suffering from psychological stress due to work, relationships, illness, or accidents.
  4. To keep limber for your sport, or maintaining vitality to feel younger and fitter.
  5. Indulgence, everyone deserves to indulge themselves now and then.

Finding a reputable Massage Therapist

With so many different types of massage and other therapies around it is very confusing for the average person to choose what is right for them.

You need to choose a therapist that is registered with a reputable association, such as a member of the Australian Natural Therapy Association (ANTA), or the Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT).

These associations require members to obtain certain qualifications before joining and they have strict compliancy standards for the therapists ensuring they maintain on-going education and training, current First Aid certification, and insurances.  The associations also have a code of ethics that the therapists must adhere to.  This is designed to protect the community and ensure high level of standards and safety.

Calling either the Association or your health fund to verify your therapists is registered will allow you to have more confidence in both the practitioner and the treatment.

Current Pricing for Massage
Pricing is not always a good indication of how effective your treatment may be.

Pricing often varies according to the setting and the overheads of the individual business or therapist.

Take into consideration

  • the location for you,
  • the times available,
  • is the therapist able to offer Health Fund receipts,
  • do they offer a guarantee?

The best way to tell is usually word of mouth, a recommendation from friends, family or work colleagues.

Is massage Dangerous?
Massage therapy, performed by properly trained therapists, is one of the safest therapies available to choose from today.  It has been in existence for many hundreds of years and has been practiced in homes, medical clinics, workplaces, and sporting venues.

But can it cause injuries? Well thankfully there has been very few incidents ever reported of massage induced injuries.
The risk of injury with massage therapy is of course higher if you have a pre-existing medical condition and you don’t inform the therapist, or a condition that is undetectable such as a thrombosis (blood clot).

For this reason it is important to tell the therapist all of your symptoms and everything you can about your medical history (even if you think that it’s not important – think again, it probably is), and notify them immediately if you don’t feel right during the session or after.  In summary, it is extremely rare to have a bad reaction to massage unless there is a pre-existing condition.

Make sure that your chosen therapist is able to offer a follow-up service by way of advice or further treatment.

5 Main reasons people would seek Pilates

1. To tone up, look better, and feel better.
2. People want to feel less aches and pains.
3. Because it improves your energy levels, it decreases stress and fatigue
4. It strengthens your body
5. It greatly improves your flexibility

4 Reasons to start Pilates training before other forms of exercise

1. Pilates trains the deep stabilizing muscles of your body to improve spinal stability and control with all exercise i.e. Pilates improves your sporting performance

2. Weight training (gym workout, or fitness classes) alone does not strengthen your important deep stability muscles – it may further reinforce poor muscle control and weakness in these deep muscles by strengthening the already “over active” superficial muscles.
3. Pilates gives you a powerful basis to work from, this is why so many dancers and gymnasts use it for their training and conditioning – it will help you maintain core balance during exercise, sports, and other daily activities
4. Pilates gives you the flexibility to achieve results you never thought possible – just ask any elite athlete!
